WITH IN THE KITCHEN

Studio About has been allowed to join the kitchen of the cake-loving and very detailed cake enthusiast Terese Sau Hansen. We were inspired by her entire universe and think our universe fits well with her approach to baking enchanting and minimalist cakes. That's why we asked if she wanted to be part of a collaboration on vases, flowers and beautiful cakes.

STRUCTURAL, CREATIVE WORLD AND GREAT DESIRE TO LEARN NEWLY

Terese is the woman behind the incredibly strict and minimalist baking profile @teresesau on Instagram. At only 25 years old, she is soon on her way to having a master's degree in Digital Design and also has a bachelor's degree in Information Science and a few years on the Marketing Management track in her luggage.

For the last 2 years, Terese has only baked in her free time and has focused on her studies, but the cakes have been difficult to give up, and therefore she has chosen not to have a part-time job alongside her studies, but to bake instead.

FUN FACTS AND GUILTY PLEASURE

  • Studied since 2014
  • Favorite ingredient passion fruit – generally citrus and tart.
  • Eats dark chocolate for breakfast every day
  • Absolutely guilty pleasure is on the way Gifflar .

IT STARTED WITH A PERFECT GLAZE

The desire to bake and create small works of art in the kitchen has always been part of her life. Terese says that she almost experiences withdrawal if she cannot find time to relax in her busy study calendar.

Back in 2016, Terese tried her first glaze , which is said to be quite a difficult process – it was surprisingly easy for her to create this perfect finish on the cake, and she got blood on her teeth and the desire to make an IG profile with her processes and results.

"Baking is a creative process, you find yourself in a small, closed bubble, where the focus is solely on the process and on creating a perfect result. I bake for myself and prefer to be alone in the kitchen"

INSPIRED BY ART

Terese is very fond of art and design, everything in her home is carefully selected and the details have been thought of. She lives simply and stylishly - exactly like her way of baking. She is inspired by art and colors, and this is reflected in her cakes.

The ideas for her cakes often arise from a certain color or shape, and she has a clear picture of the desired end result in her head. If it is the color green or a painting with lightness and freshness that has inspired, the cake will also reflect this, for example in the form of lime as an ingredient. She boils down the essence of feelings and thoughts from a painting into a small work of art of taste.

LOVE FOR KVIUM AND THE LEMON

Terese has a fondness for Kvium. There is a connection between his art and her that is hard to describe. She tries to reproduce his strong visible and invisible symbolism through her own cake creations. His use of color and composition excites and inspires Terese. What we see on the outside is not necessarily always what we get when we open up.

See Terese's interpretation of a Kvium lemonhere.

"The lemon is a symbol of life, beautiful on the outside, but if you take a bite it is sour." The lemon reflects the two-sided part of life, not everything is good, but a lot is good.

MAKE TERESE THE ART AFTER

Terese has used her knowledge of programming to create the website www.teresesau.com , here you will find all her neat recipes that safely follow you through every small process. Jump in and see her universe and be inspired.

Terese: "There is a lot of science in baking - you can deviate when you know your processes and ingredients, but as a start you have to stick to the recipe". " Baking requires time and patience, some cakes take several days and you can't always expect the result to be good, but when it does you'll be completely happy inside"

CAKES, PAST AND FUTURE

In June, Terese will finish her master's degree and start working at the Trapholt museum, which means more art in everyday life and more real free time. Terese is strongly betting that it will also mean more time in the kitchen in immersion with what she loves. The passion for baking is old and the whole adventure began during a difficult period in the then 15-year-old girl's life, when it was nice to be held by processes and very specific tasks. The passion has grown over time, and what started as a form of therapy is no longer just therapy, but now also a job. The work is displayed on her website and on her IG profile, which is extremely professional and functions as a portfolio . The hard work of keeping an IG profile going and active is something that comes with it, and you have to take the sour with the sweet - just like life and lemons.

TIPS FOR A BEGINNER

  • Find a recipe, read it all before you start.
  • It can sometimes take a few days, but great when the result is as desired.
  • It requires structure, patience and persistence.
  • You can make the appearance and the finished result your own - it gives an extra boost if you are ready to go beyond the recipe.
