Are you also the type who is drawn to beautiful vintage quilted rugs in fine patterns and colors? Where the good and neat craftsmanship clearly shines through? It is super popular to use pieces of patchwork and quilted works in a frame. It gives the textiles a more modern look, and is a fun way to get slightly different art on your wall, especially in the modern interior, where many people may not think the old handmade patchwork tapestries fit in.
Textile art comes in many variations, and you can easily make patchwork with a modern graphic expression that fits in with your decor. Patchwork is almost addictive because it's just fun to play around with different color combinations and patterns, and it's pretty amazing how different results you can achieve with just a few changes in pattern and fabric.
In this guide, you get the guide to graphic patchwork that can be made in your favorite colors. And you don't need to get too hung up on the finish line, because you can easily freestyle. The project is perfect for a cozy friend's craft day or for some family fun with your mother!
FABRIC FOR PATCHWORK
Patchwork is typically made in 100% tightly woven cotton - it does not slip and is easy to work with. But there is nothing in the way of experimenting with other types of fabric, just be aware that it may be more difficult to get the tips to align if the fabric tends to slip or stretch.
Patchwork is also obvious if you want to use your smaller fabric scraps in a nice way. Maybe you have an old skirt, a nice but holey pillow or beautiful heirloom textiles that can be given new life in a patchwork project. For this project we have used all kinds of fabric scraps - polyester, viscose, silk, cotton in a beautiful combination. On the thinnest fabrics, we have ironed vrieseline on the back to make it firmer and easier to work with. Here, of course, you have to watch the temperature when ironing, so that the plastics don't get burnt.

PATCHWORK IN FRAME - HOW TO DO IT
At first glance, sewing patchwork may look advanced, and it certainly can be, depending on the pattern. But in this little guide, we have focused on a simple pattern made from fabric strips of the same width. It is therefore a good beginner patchwork project - this does not mean, however, that all experienced patchwork sewists cannot be inspired by the project!
Let's get started with the little patchwork work.
1. CHOOSE FABRIC
In this work we have used 6 different types of fabric. However, you can also choose to make it completely monochromatic or tone on tone. There is free play!
3. CUT FABRIC
For your patchwork artwork you will need 2 shapes:
2 x rectangles that form the center. They should measure approx. 16 x 13 cm.
8 x fabric strips with a width of approx. 5 cm. The strips vary in length, but the easiest is to cut all strips approx. 35 cm in length and then cut as needed.
4. SEW TOGETHER
When you have to sew your patchwork work together, you start from the inside.
- Sew the two inner rectangles together so you have your center. Then iron the fold out.
- Then sew strips on either side of your center. Iron and trim so that you always have a nice straight edge.
- Sew strips at the top and bottom, iron and cut again.
- Repeat to sew on the last ring of strips.
- Iron the finished work.
FRAMING YOUR ARTWORK
A beautiful frame can make all the difference. Here we have chosen an A2 frame in the color SMOKE from our new collection FRAMELESS . The frame has a smoke colored backing that forms a beautiful passepartout around the patchwork work. The frame also has UV protection that protects your work from fading in the sun.
With the transparent frame, you have every opportunity to create a beautiful interior. The frame can stand or hang in the window, where the light can play with the motif and send beautiful reflections into the living room. You can also find a nice place on the picture wall or create an exciting effect by hanging it from the ceiling.
