WORKING IN YOUR OWN HOME
Mia's work as a photographer is wide-ranging. She has done a number of portrait photos, shot photos within the fashion industry, and not least, she is often out as a photographer on styling and home reportage assignments.
Mia often uses her own home as a backdrop for various styling and photography tasks. Her home is bright, inviting and original. The house is architect-designed and from the 1950s, it was originally built to house one family, as well as a private midwifery clinic. Therefore, the house also offers many cool angles, different levels and quirky details that Mia knows how to highlight.
ORIGINAL DETAILS
"When you buy a house with so many well-preserved details, you have to enjoy them and appreciate them" - says Mia.
- Feel free to divide your renovation into several stages - A single room can change the atmosphere of the entire house. Things take time, and interiors and spaces grow with the family.
- Respect the original details - If you change too many of the original ideas behind such a house, the atmosphere and appearance will change drastically. The details are what give soul and warmth.
- Emphasize and utilize the original - At Mia's home, they have, among other things, chosen to preserve the original doors with the curved frames.
SENSE OF DETAIL
There is no doubt that Mia has a very special eye for details and compositions, it is expressed in her photographs and styling work, that is why we also asked her if she would style and shoot some pictures of our latest collection FRAMELESS .
Here, fine paper clips from @office.banana and pressed paper flowers from @decordk have been selected for the frames
TIMELESS CLASSIC DESIGN, FLEA FINDS AND DIY's
" For me, it's functionality and how everyday life should be in the individual room - it's about combining interior design with functionality," says Mia.
The look of the rooms changes and changes in relation to where they are as a family and what they need in their daily lives. The interior is taken out and stored away to later reappear in a different context.
Compositions, playing with colors and shapes come naturally to her, and this can be seen in all the rooms of the house. The minimalist style continues, but Mia is very conscious of creating depth and atmosphere and this is often done by adding a color to the room. Mia has just invested in 4 new coral red dining table chairs, they break a bit with the elegant and simple look, and create new energy.
REMEMBER
- The room must be used and enjoyed.
- Add a bit of colour, possibly colored chairs, a lamp, pillow or anything else that can break the frame.
- Focus on the function of the room and decorate accordingly.
It is clear that Mia has an eye for detail and that she carefully selects the interior she has in the house.
SUSTAINABILITY AND HOME DESIGN
When working with home styling and interior design, the interior is often replaced, but by focusing on quality and slow fashion, you can break with the "use and throw away" culture .
MIA'S ADVICE
- Buy quality and design that lasts, not necessarily expensive design, but things where the design language lasts and is not designed based on the fast trends of the time.
- Keep some of the things you care about instead of throwing them out when the need changes.
BLINDED BY
VERNER PANTON - Verner Panton has become her "go to" when she searches the web for design and new finds. She loves Verner Panton's way of combining the round shapes, the playful and functional design.
ART BOOKS - Art books and museums have always attracted Mia, this is where she finds inspiration and peace.
CHAIRS AND LAMPS - Mia loves the style in both chairs and lamps, a single chair can change an entire room, as can a lamp.
ART AND FRAMES
"Art for me is what just needs to make the room pop and create a bit of chaos" - that's why Mia also spends a lot of time choosing what to hang on her walls.
Art, posters and frames must create dynamism and atmosphere, which is why Mia often paints the frames so that they also become part of the artwork. She is also not afraid to compose herself and create art that fits the room. Mia does not have the desire to create, be creative and innovate herself from strangers. Throughout her childhood and youth, Mia's mother has sewn her wardrobe and is now continuing with her grandson's wardrobe.
MIAS TIPS FOR ART ON THE WALLS
- Think about the composition
- Mix frames in different materials, paint them if you can't find the right color.
- Don't be afraid to try things out, change along the way or as needed. Do away with our parents' idea that what you hung up stayed hanging for 20 years.
- Art is mood and emotions and it changes over time.
Since Mia was 2 years old, she has loved immersing herself in different materials, shapes and colors. The urge to create has always been present, and it is expressed in many ways in her interior design and in her work as a stylist and photographer. Get inspired and follow @still_sunday.
